ABOUT LEAH GARRETT
The stories history left behind
I’m so excited to publish my new book, The Flight Nurses’ War: The American Women Who Saved Thousands of Lives at Iwo Jima and Okinawa, coming in October 2026.
I became interested in this story because so many of my own relatives served in World War II. While writing the book, I spent years in the archives, had documents declassified, and met the families of these remarkable nurses. I was stunned to discover that such a crucial story of courage, sacrifice, and service had never been fully told. I wanted to read that book, so I wrote it.
